A friend of mine has been telling me about this place for a long time and I'm only in this area a couple times a year so I finally decided to give it a try and it was delicious!!! I suppose it's considered 'fast food' but the beef sandwiches are amazing and not your typical fast food item. The portions are generous and there's plenty to choose from on the menu. I strongly suggest Italian beef!! My only issue was I was told fresh bread would be brought out to me because it came with the salad but the employee never brought it.... I was so full from eating the other food that I didn't go back to the counter to ask about it. It's all good... I will definitely be stopping in here the few times a year I pass by though, it was that good. It is on the pricey side but the quality is worth it, in my opinion.

Our first time eating here and wow! Everyone's food was great. My 8 & 6 year old got the chicken tenders and they were juicy and delicious. Our burgers were cooked to perfection!

The restaurant has route 66/ 50s dinner type theme. They had a sign for a drink that they didn't serve which I thought was weird. The staff was friendly enough. The menu had a good amount of selection that everyone should be able to fond something they like. The food was good. Between the four of us the cost per person averaged to 17.50 per meal.

Great beef sandwich dipped with hot pepper n cheese. The Team had a great attitude as I watched a full baseball team pile in for after game dinner. The Team actually got pumped up and ready to serve at least 60 hungry athletes. I was impressed!

One of the best Portillo’s I’ve seen lots of really cool, route 66 memorabilia gas pump signs. The hot beef and cheese. No veggies with extra gravy was just perfect. The jumbo chili dog with onion again one of the best and lots of other good food will be back. Thank you for the great service.

The first place my family wants to go when we visit Illinois is Portillos. Normally, we have to wait until we get closer to Chicago, but this trip we discovered the Portillos in Springfield, IL, and we were so happy! The people working there were very nice and helpful. The restaurant itself was clean, although the bathroom was not properly stocked with toilet paper. To be fair, it was Thanksgiving weekend and extremely busy. Our order was correct and totally delicious. We also enjoyed the little extras at the front for purchase (ornaments, car fresheners and single servings of the chocolate cake)

The Maxwell Street Polish had a distinct Polish sausage taste. It was charred but not burnt, and they garnished it generously with onions. The poppy seed bun was soft yet held everything together. We also ordered a dipped Italian Beef and Sausage Combo. Even though the sandwich was dipped, it wasn’t soggy at all. The beef and sausage were tender. Both items were easy to cut in half with a plastic knife for us to share. The cashier was friendly and happily answered my questions about the menu. Another employee came by to check on us while we were eating. The interior has an old-school diner vibe, which is neat. Overall, it was a great introduction to Chicago-style food.

9/2024 5* I live in Chicago so I know what Portillo's standards are, etc. My food was good, and it was hot. No complaints. The atmosphere, no complaints. Very nice atmosphere. The wait for food was a bit long. One customer in front of me (4 people in his party) and then me. Pouring rain outside, so no customers. And it was 9 PM at night. Still, we waited almost 10 minutes for our orders. KInd of crazy. But it did taste good.
